VISX Star S4™

VISX Star 4The VISX Star S4™ is an excimer laser by VISX™, a pioneer in the development of excimer laser systems. The Star S4™ laser requires a shorter procedure time and contains the ActiveTrak™ a sophisticated eye tracking system that can capture all three dimensions of intra-operative eye movements without dilation of the pupils.


The main benefit of the VISX Star S4™ laser is that it produces the smoothest surface on the cornea after the procedure. This promotes faster healing which results in better vision. The Star S4™ laser is FDA approved to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.


The 3D ActiveTrak™ EyeTracker tracks the horizontal, vertical and up and down motion of the eye in real time. By verifying the correct position of your eye before every laser pulse, the laser can safely and precisely control the placement of each laser pulse.



Customvue™ IntraLASIK


With the introduction of Wavefront mapping technology, Dr. Boothe can now further customize the treatment options for every patient. The new WaveScan® technology developed by VISX™ can detect higher-order aberrations that have gone previously undetected. Halos, poor night vision and overall quality of vision are improved.


The resulting diagnostic information is converted to a Wavefront Map and this individualized treatment information is transferred directly to the laser. The Wavefront Map guides the treatment, resulting in a Customized IntraLASIK procedure.



Iris Registation


Automated Iris Registration (IR), is a non-contact method for aligning and registering the Advanced CustomVue procedure. IR correctly centers and aligns the treatment, independently of pupil center migration, as well as compensates for cyclotorsional movement, providing a more precise ablation placement. By enabling much more accurate alignment, IR gives you the confidence that the treatment you recieve will be safe, effective and accurate.



Eye Tracking


The VISX Star S4 laser comes with the ActiveTrak™ 3-D Active Eye Tracking with automatic centering, an FDA-approved tracker that tracks eye movements along the X, Y and Z axes. These features facilitate the accurate performance of the Advanced CustomVue™ procedure.



Clinical Studies


The results of the FDA's clinical study on visual acuity show that 6 months after the VISX CustomVue™ procedure:


  • 100% of patients could see 20/40 or better
  • 94% achieved 20/20 or better
  • 74% were 20/16 or better


Overall, many patients were pleased with their quality of vision, with four times as many patients satisfied with their night vision when compared to wearing their glasses or contacts. 98% of nearsighted patients who undergo WaveFront Customized IntraLASIK at Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center achieve 20/20 vision or better!
