Tecnis™ Lens Implant

What is it?

The Tecnis IOL™ is the created from a proprietary hydrophobic acrylic material. The material has the lowest chromatic aberration and highest optical throughput transmits healthy blue light and reduces the incidence of glistenings. The one piece lens design is the only lens with the performance of a ProTEC™ 360 degree barrier edge, the stability of Tri-Fix™ 3-point design, and a frosted edge treatment. The optics are the first and only FDA-approved wavefront designed that rejuvenates vision by correcting spherical aberrations to essentially zero.

How Does it Work?

Tecnis IOL™ is an intraocular lens that is inserted into the eye to replace the eye's natural crystalline lens and restore vision, including nighttime vision. Vision is restored to a level that has likely not been experienced by the patient since young adulthood. The surgery that is preformed by Dr. Boothe is relatively simple and is performed on an outpatient basis with a local anesthetic.

When is it Used?

The Tecnis IOL™ is used in adult patients with and without presbyopia, who desire near, intermediate and distance vision with increased independence from glasses following cataract surgery.

What is a Cataract

The natural lens of the human eye is made mostly of water and protein, and sometimes this protein can bond together. This causes vision to become discolored and a bit milky. This is called a cataract and can cause the rays of light passing through the eye to become scattered and unfocused. If left untreated, cataracts can lead to blindness, but this is very rare in the United States.

The only treatment for cataracts is to remove the natural lens from the eye and replace it with a lens implant or intraocular lens (IOL). This allows the patient to see without the obstruction of the cataract.
